Hi! Welcome to Auntie Blues–I’m so glad you’re here! I started this blog because I love living creatively, and I really want to help you live a more fun, creative life, too. Let’s explore cooking, arts & crafts, journaling, DIY and more together.
“Auntie Blues” is a tongue-in-cheek nickname bestowed upon me years ago by a beloved great-niece. It’s fitting in many ways–blue in all its variations (sky, turquoise, azure, periwinkle–even the names rock!) is my favorite color. I’m from Bluesy Chicago. And like most human beings, I do get the blues sometimes. But I sure don’t hang out a welcome sign and invite ’em to pull up a chair and stay awhile! Instead, I bust out the big guns… Glue guns, that is. And paint, canvas, glitter, beads, clay, my die cut machine, paper, leather scraps. Or big knives! And pots, pans, spoons, measuring cups. Or my journal. Or my computer. I just have to make something… write something… cook something… create something!
My husband, “Uncle Marty” and I have two adult sons who still live in the Chicago area. Before relocating to Texas, we lived in beautiful Southern California for eight years.
Some of the recipes you’ll find here are low carb, but I often include a normal-carb variation when possible. Some are just aw-heck-yeah YUM!
While some of my attempts at arts & crafts are quite amusing (feel free to point and laugh), I’m always on the hunt for techniques that allow anyone to make beautiful things.
Creative pursuits are healing, mind-altering and downright necessary. I use my art (which includes cooking) to express myself, to sooth myself, to escape from a world that seems increasingly hateful, violent and dangerous, and to feel happier, healthier and stronger. I love experimenting with cooking, too, and it seems I’m physically incapable of following a recipe to the letter! I like to tweak it and make it mine. I encourage you to do the same!
I really appreciate you stopping by to take a peek. Hope you enjoy my blog and that within its pages you find a reason to smile!
With Love & Gratitude,
